Zippo is a refillable metal lighter manufactured by the Zippo Manufacturing Company in the United States. Thousands of designs for the lighter have been released in the seven decades since its invention.
The company is known for its lifetime warranty on its product. The company offers to repair or replace any Zippo lighter that has malfunctioned, regardless of how many years ago it was manufactured or how many people have used it. The only part not covered by the warranty is the finish on the exterior of the lighter.
Zippo lighters are known for being "windproof" due to the special design of the chimney and the ability to produce a strong flame accordingly. The chimney is large (relative to the size of the flame) and metal with small holes. The correct way to extinguish it is by closing the lid, which cuts off the oxygen supply. Closing it does not cut off the fuel supply. Unlike other lighters, its uniqueness lies in the fact that it operates using a wick. The quick opening of the lighter, along with the audible click, activates the wick, which releases the fuel, and the flint wheel creates a spark just like in other lighters. In order to prevent fuel waste, it is customary to keep the Zippo lighter with the lid closed when not in use.
