For years, loving couples have been writing their names on a padlock and locking it in central locations around the world, symbolizing the eternity of their love.
Some interesting facts about love locks
- According to legend, the custom of hanging love locks began in Serbia just before World War I in 1915. The story is about a young Serbian couple who used to meet on a bridge in the town of Vrnjačka Banja, where they planned their life together. Her fiancé, Relja, went off to fight in Greece, where he met another woman and married her. Nada fell into a deep depression and eventually died. Since then, the young women of the town have made a habit of hanging locks on the bridge with their names and their partners' names, throwing the key into the water as a sign of eternal love and to ensure their partner could not change their mind.

Although UNESCO designated the bridges used for hanging love locks in Paris as World Heritage Sites, the Paris authorities decided that the weight of the accumulated locks on the bridge had become a safety hazard. The most famous pedestrian bridge in the city of lovers, the Pont des Arts, was closed in 2015, and 45 tons of 700,000 locks that had been hung since 2008, when the custom began in Paris, were removed.
- In Venice, you are allowed to hang love locks on the Accademia Bridge on the Grand Canal; anywhere else, you will receive a 3,000 euro fine.
- In Tel Aviv, love locks are hung on the bridge that crosses the Yarkon River near Reading – the Tel Aviv municipality loves the lovers and does not bother them.

- Even though the municipality in Paris removed the locks three years ago, tourists renewed the tradition and continued to hang locks. Does the fact that there are many locks on the bridge not bother the couples? On the contrary, this shared romance reinforces the feeling of the couples that they have done the right thing. In Rome: The Ponte Milvio bridge became a love lock bridge following Frederico Moccia's 2006 book, "Ho voglia di te." Following the book and the film, the bridge became a site for lovers and love locks.
